Hi Luca,
You're right, dialogue between libraries should be the main focus of this exchange. If it's possible to have a remote exchange, it will allow libraries that aren't in Brazil to participate in the discussion. I don't speak English... but I'll be there, and I think Jean-Marc, who chairs the Bibliography Commission, will be able to attend and introduce himself. Currently on the BBS list are the Spanish, Belgian, Swiss, Italian, German, Austrian, French libraries, and the University of South Florida library. Contact with other libraries needs to be reestablished.
Another topic could be to present the work done, particularly to the UIS Bureau. They participated in the funding and are very interested. For Camille and Yohann, it's a great opportunity to showcase their work. It could involve a presentation over a limited time period, and the tools they've implemented.
For the FFspéléo, there's a relationship problem with Grottocenter for some people. It's a small group, but they have responsibilities and they want the FFSpéléo to lead the projects, be responsible, be valued, and receive funding. It's quite complicated in the context of an international collaboration. There's no librarian at the Federation, the secretary resigned, the director was fired, the books are classified several years late, and the BBS classification is only used in their software. I called the FFspéléo's IT specialist to resolve the problem. He thinks it's great that the FFSpéléo can retrieve the data and files and provide them. But he's an employee, and it's the elected officials who decide.
Luca, would you be willing to join the team that leads the work of the UIS Bibliography Commission? It is only a matter of being subscribed to the bbs-mngt list and participating in the animation of the commission, in the choices which are made like that of launching a work on the subjects linked to the documents Currently there are 3 of us with Ana and Jean Marc

Dear Frederic, Yohann told me yesterday that you were thinking of presenting the project on data exchange between libraries and GrottoCenter on the next ICS in Belo Horizonte. I believe that this is feasible and we can try to reserve some space during the 1hour slot of the Auditorium 8 booked on the 24th july at 2PM for the meeting of UIS Documentation Centers.
I think that the meeting should primarily point to the "knowing each other" among librarians, and to talk about possible strategies for exchange of publications/state of the art of the different documentation centers. The second part could be to discuss about the GrottoCenter project but i believe that there are a lot of issues on the table, and they would require more time and dedication. As you have seen, the proposal of changing the (SCC) Speleological Classification Subject used by BBS, that was adopted since many years by many libraries especially from the French speleological world, is raising concerns. That's understandable, due to the fact that if the libraries are phisically organized with shelves that reflect the used classification, it's hard to plan a re-mobilization of many titles, books and shelves. I believe that we/you must concentrate on some priorities, like:
- Implementation of the server to share the metadata and make
GrottoCenter be able to retrieve informations from other libraries (and the inverse sense). If the SCC is a problem, we can bypass it with the option of making the users able to decide which fields of the metadata can be imported or not. In this way, every library can decide to (or not to) import a specific field of the description. 2. AI-based extraction of metadata from digital files (scanned articles, journals etc). In this way, GrottoCenter can populate its database witht the extracted information, that can be imported in the other softwares of the documenation centers.
I believe that these two point are already enough and people usually get scared if somebody propose them too many things to be done (like me when you talked to me at the Meeting in Caselle in Pittari last autumn 😄 ). The second point should be of interest of all libraries, and it could be really innovative.
So, we can use that time slot and, if you want, i can ask the organizers to add also another hour to the meeting (if we have still the possibility). I also believe that you should be among the presenters (not only Yohann and Camille by remote). People may have questions not only related to the "technical" part, but also the conceptual and the financial ones.
Thank you, cheers
Luca
